HOW DOES IT WORK?
Batteries are used to store incoming electricity that has been aggregated from such sources such as the utility grid, photovoltaic (PV) solar power or other renewable energy generation resources. Stored power can then be discharged to specific loads or whole applications at other designated time intervals for:
• Emergency backup power,
• Peak shifting,
• Load allocation,
• Demand response, etc.
Battery storage is the leading form of energy storage and varies in chemistries such as lead acid, nickel metal hydride, and lithium-ion. Most chemistries behave differently due to their intrinsic nature in capacity, density, and cycle life as well as other physical factors. Each has value and are appropriate for a range of jobs depending on the objective(s) for which the batteries are being employed.
